July PLTG Meeting Features CiteIt! Software

NEW YORK, NY (July 12, 2002) – The July, 2002 meeting of the Professional Legal Trainers Group (PLTG) featured a demonstration of CiteIt!, a software application that allows users to automate the process of creating legal citation and generating a table of authorities.  Greg Boesel, President of Sidebar Software, made the presentation to an audience of approximately 30 trainers from New York City's largest law firms.  He demonstrated how CiteIt! can assist lawyers, legal secretaries, paralegals and word processing staff with managing legal citation and source information.

PLTG members were shown how CiteIt! can import legal citations and research information from on-line databases such as Westlaw and Lexis-Nexis, as well as from previously-created Word and WordPerfect documents, and how imported citations are automatically formatted correctly according to The Bluebook's formatting and style rules.

Boesel then demonstrated how CiteIt! will insert properly formatted citations into a document and also mark the citation for inclusion in a table of authorities. "By using CiteIt! to create legal citations in your document, you have the benefit of quick, accurate citation, as well as knowing that every citation will automatically be included in your table of authorities," said Boesel.  Attendees were also shown how CiteIt! analyzes a completed document, locates the legal citations which appear in the document, and then instantly creates a table of authorities.

Boesel also discussed how notes and keyword information can be added to each citation source, which allows a user to organize legal research and makes it easier for lawyers, legal secretaries and paralegals to collaborate in the process of creating a legal brief or memo.  "CiteIt! offers tools which make it easy to leverage all of the legal research and citations which were assembled for a particular document, regardless of whether that information ended up in the final version of the brief.  This provides users a more complete picture of the issues presented in a document, as well as provide a quick way to reuse both citation and research information."

After his presentation, Boesel commented on the PLTG's members high level of expertise.  "It is always a pleasure to address organizations like the PLTG, because not only do the members have a great deal of technological expertise, but they also have a thorough understanding of all of the functional processes in a law firm.  This combination of skills makes it possible for them to help their users realize and take advantage of all of the benefits that legal technology products such as CiteIt! can provide."

Dennis Holly, Director of Project Management at Perfect Access Speer and the founder and past-president of the PLTG was impressed with CiteIt! presentation, "CiteIt! is the new player on the block when it comes to working with legal citations, briefs, and tables of authorities- it does it all.   Mr. Boesel's demonstration and ease in explaining the application helped our members see why CiteIt! deserves the recent attention that it is getting in the legal community."
